UNDERSTANDING YOUR BENEFIT

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a professional, evidence-based form of talk therapy. As a veteran, you may be navigating the lasting psychological impacts of service, whether that's operational stress, trauma, transition challenges, or simply the weight of experiences that are hard to talk about. Working one-on-one with a Registered Psychotherapist, you'll explore what's affecting your mental health and develop real tools to move forward.

"Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. It's one of the most tactically sound decisions you can make for yourself and the people around you."

Unlike casual conversation, psychotherapy is structured, goal-oriented, and grounded in clinical training. Your therapist brings both professional expertise and genuine care to every session, in a space where your service history is understood and respected.

our approach

How we work with veterans

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches tailored to the unique experiences and needs of those who have served. No two veterans are the same, and no two treatment plans are either.

🧠
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Identify and shift thought patterns driving anxiety, hypervigilance, low mood, and stress. Practical, structured, and widely used in the treatment of operational stress injuries.

🤝
Trauma-Informed Care

A safety-first approach for veterans navigating the lasting effects of operational trauma, moral injury, or difficult service experiences. Your therapist works at your pace,  always.

🌱
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

Goal-oriented sessions that build on your existing strengths and resilience. Designed for veterans who want practical tools and a clear path forward.

Why Veterans Choose Serebro Health

We understand military culture

Our Clinical Director is a military spouse who understands firsthand the demands and realities of military life. Our Director of Operations is a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) veteran himself. Every therapist at Serebro Health receives training in the military environment, including rank structure, operational culture, and the unique stressors faced by those who serve and those who served.

You won't need to explain what a posting cycle feels like, what operational stress looks like at home, or why asking for help can feel complicated. We already understand and we're here to help.

🎖️
Veteran-led operations

Our Director of Operations is a CAF veteran. Military experience informs how we operate and how we support our clients.

🏠
Military family perspective

Our Clinical Director is a military spouse. The realities of military family life. Postings, deployments, reintegration, are part of our lived experience.

🎓
Trained in military culture

Every therapist at Serebro Health receives training in the military environment: rank structure, operational culture, and the stressors unique to service and post-service life.

"You've already done the hard part by showing up. We'll take it from here."

YOUR PATHWAY TO CARE

How to access veterans therapy

Veterans can access therapy at Serebro Health directly, no referral required. Here's how the process works.

1

Book a free consultation

Reach out to Serebro Health directly to book a free 20-minute consultation. There's no referral required to get started. We'll discuss what you're looking for, confirm VAC eligibility where applicable, and match you with the right therapist.

2

VAC eligibility confirmation

If you are seeking coverage through Veterans Affairs Canada, your eligibility will be confirmed prior to your first covered session. Direct billing through Blue Cross is set up on your behalf, you will not need to manage reimbursement yourself. If you are not VAC-eligible or prefer to access services privately, standard rates apply and your first session is still free.

3

Your first session

Your first session is free for all veterans regardless of VAC eligibility. Your therapist takes time to understand your background, your service history to the extent you're comfortable sharing, and what you're hoping to work on. There are no wrong answers and no expectations, just a conversation.

4

Ongoing sessions

Each 50-minute session builds on the last. You'll work through your goals using evidence-based approaches tailored to your experience as a veteran, at a pace that feels right. VAC-eligible clients are billed directly through Blue Cross. All others can continue under personal health benefits, EAP coverage, or privately out of pocket.

5

Progress and next steps

Therapy isn't indefinite. Together with your therapist you'll decide when you're ready to step back, equipped with the tools to keep moving forward on your own. Occasional check-ins are always available if needed down the road.
